In this podcast we cover the history of the wild turkey. This bird was transported from Mexico to Europe and then to North America. Join us to find out how the wild turkey made it back from the brink of extinction. Thanks to John Howard for the turkey photo.
Note: Bill and Bob attempted to do this podcast in front of a live audience at the Amish Bird Symposium. Bob was a Turkey and forgot to press record! We have so much great information on the wild turkey that we decided to break it into three podcasts.

Hey Bill (& Bob), listening to this episode, the sound quality and the conversation is so clear and fun, it almost felt like you were in my kitchen this morning, sharing tea and toast as you two talked and I laughed! I remember when I was hiking North Fork Mountain in Pendleton County, WV, conducting a Floristic survey for my MS thesis, I came upon about a dozen Turkey hens scratching and feeding in the leaf litter along the ridge. Startled, they suddenly rose and sailed through the table mountain pines as if they had predetermined escape paths they knew they would take if a predator or mad botanist came upon them! I was speechless, since I had no idea they could fly!! I love your podcast! Bob, I was a naturalist at CNC 1983-1989, so Bill & I are buds. I look forward to meeting you, too, when my wife & I visit Northern KY this spring. Happy Easter to you both and to your families!
Bob
I appreciated your telling us about the sound quality. We try hard to have good quality sound. Thanks for the story of your encounter with turkeys. I hope all our listeners have a chance to encounter wild turkeys. I will look forward to meeting you this spring.
