This is a great native under story plant. Bill explains the difference between a tree and a bush. Spicebush is a wonderful plant to look for on a hike. Thanks to John Howard for the photos.

Hi, Nature Guys,
I really enjoy your show! Just a slight comment/correction on the Spicebush Swallowtail – the caterpillars do like to chomp on spicebush but will also feed on sassafras.
Keep up the good work!
Bob
Thanks for pointing that out!

“Hi Guys!” Once again, I love your podcasts! I’m at home this morning, having worked extra hours earlier this week, and needing to do some stuff at home. While eating breakfast, I am listing to and laughing with “you guys” … One comment about spice bush (Lindera benzoin) … this species is actually polygomo-dioecious, which means it is indeed sometimes dioecioius, but it ALSO has perfect flowers on any given shrub! So … be careful, sometimes you can find yourself confused when you try to key it out, finding some flowers that are perfect and some flowers either pistiliate or staminate on the same shrub!

Thanks for taking the time to bring out this point. You know Bill is always excited to learn a new word!
