Parasitic Zombie Plants – No Color, No Food, No Problem!

August 22, 2017 by Lisa 2 Comments

Bill has a friend who sent an email with a picture that inspired this podcast. The second picture below is a large patch of a plant called Indian Pipes. Learn more about three parasitic plants that you can look for on your next woodland hike.

Listen to Nature Guy’s episode Sitting by a Beech.  See the story about Indian Pipes on Lloyd Arneach’s website.

Special thanks to listener Karen Gaker for the photo of Indian Pipes.

Indian pipes! Fascinating plant. Recently, we spent time in the Lake Superior area. On our hikes, we saw many Indian pipes, including some with erect seed pods. Seeing the erect pods was a first for me.

I was also in the Lake Superior area a few weeks back and we saw a number of Indian Pipes. Very cool that you saw the pods. I am going to keep an eye out for them. Thanks for taking the time to share this!
