Bob reads an email from a listener (Linda) with a question about eBird that inspired us to do a whole episode on eBird. Charles starts out explaining the capabilities and the value of eBird both to the user and the scientific community. He and Bob go on a virtual birding trip to demonstrate how you can use eBird.

I love e-bird!! and Merlin =). I had to confirm a sighting once. It was weird to get an e-mail asking for more details. It was a white crowned sparrow which was apparently unusual for the area where I live. I had pictures from a game camera but I have not figured out how to upload photos yet.
I agree that Blue Jays are really good at the red tailed hawk sounds. And I thought that was what I have been hearing but turns out, the last 2 days I have had red tailed hawks hanging around my house just crying all day long. I believe the cries are coming from juveniles but when I get close to the tree the cries are coming from, they fly off. However, they seem to like the trees around my house as they keep coming back. could these be juveniles asking for food? Any ideas?
Bob
Juveniles asking for food sounds like a possibility. If anyone has a better idea please let us know.
