Cicadas are Kinda Cute

September 26, 2017 by Lisa 3 Comments

Join us as we explore the mysterious world of periodical cicadas. Our research for this episode was easy because we are lucky to have in Cincinnati a cicada expert. Gene Kritsky is a Professor of Biology at Mount St. Joseph University. He has written a book called “Periodical Cicadas The Plague and the Puzzle”. Check out his app Cicada Safari to learn more and report your cicada sightings.

Listened to this past podcast a couple days ago while traveling. I remember very distinctly experiencing a 17 year cicada emergence as a kid. I actually thought the dark blue orange winged critters looked like something out a comic book…and there were SO MANY of them that just walking outside they would run into me. I now understand they don’t have great eye sight but i think part of the issue is simply there were so many that it was impossible not to have run-ins with each other.
