Chris Clements of Imago joins Bob to talk about the Japanese concept of 72 seasons. Chris challenges us to go out and visit nature regularly in our own neck of the woods. See how it changes every few days. Try to come up with your own micro-season and give it an evocative name.

Really helpful and interesting program. I’m going to vote for voles – as the acorn hoarders. I’ve had voles tunneling my yard in South Carolina all fall and winter.
Bob
Thanks for your vole! I think voles are the likely hoarders.

Following from Greg Torres comments about that time in spring when bird poop changes from white to purple….. I think one of my 72 season would be “white to purple”- or “Shiro kara murasaki” indictating the time the mulberries ripen.
Bob
I like it! We have an episode on mulberries if anyone is interested.

I checked with my wife, who did her PhD work on seed predation in small mammal populations. She won’t commit. Could be voles, could be a deer mouse.
I agree with whatever she says!
Bob
I like her not wanting to commit!
